Sendmail Unveils Industry’s First Enterprise Messaging Application Store
EMERYVILLE, California, & London, UK - January 20 2010 – Sendmail, Inc., the leading provider of reliable and secure email and messaging infrastructures, today unveiled the new Sentrion Application Store (www.sendmail.com/sm/apps/), the industry’s first customisable email architecture solution enabling enterprises to select messaging applications of their choice as add-on options for the Sentrion Messaging Processor (MP) infrastructure. Making dozens of apps for all enterprise messaging needs available from Sendmail and from third parties for the first time on a single, yet powerful, messaging infrastructure platform, IT professionals now have a simple solution to reduce costs by easily adding functionality without deploying separate, and costly, point products from multiple vendors.
The new Sentrion App Store frees enterprises from having to implement and support specialised stand-alone email products to meet the needs of various departments such as security, compliance, and marketing. Sentrion customers can easily browse dozens of specialised apps for message filtering, compliance polices, secure content, and hundreds of partner and community-developed apps to integrate with their email backbone. By leveraging Sentrion’s powerful policy engine synchronised with the enterprise directory, users can seamlessly implement all corporate policies for both inbound and outbound messages. As a result, enterprises can reduce OPEX costs by eliminating redundant systems and incompatible products, which today stand alone and are not integrated with the core email backbone.
“Metaphorically speaking, the Sentrion Message Processor is to enterprise email what smartphones are to the individual consumer. Similar to smartphones, which have the capability to run vast numbers of apps for almost every conceivable information or entertainment need, Sendmail’s Sentrion is a platform for apps for all enterprise messaging needs,” said Glen D. Vondrick, executive vice president and COO, Sendmail. “As the world today knows it’s possible to utilise an smartphone for many different purposes, from a music player or a phone, to a portable GPS system, a calculator, a handheld gaming device, or even a television remote control, enterprise companies today are now recognising they can utilise the Sentrion Messaging Platform and App Store in much the same multi-functional way, to simplify all their enterprise messaging requirements.”
Sentrion Message Processors
Unlike competitive offerings designed as specific-purpose products, the Sentrion Message Processor is an open messaging platform with optional integrated enterprise messaging applications deployed on-premise or as cloud computing services. All Sentrion appliances are designed as a platform for SMTP email infrastructure that can easily be extended by adding email security apps supported by Sendmail, by third parties, and by customers through the industry standard mail filter (or Milter) interface. The Sentrion apps are used at the Gateway or in the cloud for inbound protection from spam, viruses, denial-of-service attacks, phishing attacks and other malware, and can be deployed internally for complex multi-location routing and for outbound protection apps for DLP, regulatory compliance such as GLBA and HIPPA, and encryption.
Sentrion App Store
From data loss prevention apps to apps that help improve deliverability and bounce backs of sales and marketing emails sent from corporate CRM systems such as Salesforce.com, the number of apps for all enterprise messaging needs available today in the Sentrion App Store is extensive. Applications are easy to browse and are available in the following categories:
• Compliance Policy – Apps to help enterprises stay in compliance with federal, state, and international laws and ensure employees comply with corporate email policies.
• Secure Content – Apps to help enterprises protect sensitive and confidential information by automatically securing data. These apps protect businesses without relying on end-users.
• Filtering – Apps that help enterprises stop 99.9+ percent of all unwanted email from reaching end-users and prevent 80 percent of it from ever touching the email infrastructure.
• Partner – Best-of-breed apps from Sendmail’s trusted partners "plug into" the Sentrion platform, helping enterprises handle messaging requirements ranging from compliance workflow to Instant Messaging.
• Community - Hundreds of user-developed and contributed apps are available through the standard Milter interface and can be certified on Sentrion.
All apps available in the Sentrion App Store rely upon the Sentrion Message Processing Engine (MPE) as part of Sentrion MP (hard appliance), Sentrion MPV (virtual appliance), Sentrion MPQ (blade server), and Sentrion Cloud Services (SaaS). Sentrion MPE combines a sophisticated directory synchronisation service and powerful policy engine with the world’s most powerful message transfer agent, patented message flow controls, and authentication and quarantine capabilities.
For Sendmail’s ongoing support for the growing community of Milter developers, Sendmail is assisting the www.Milter.org community to certify Milter applications for the Sentrion App Store. Sendmail is also providing support to assist community developers in migrating existing Milter applications to the Sentrion platform.
“We are excited to unveil the industry’s first messaging application store for customising enterprise email architecture, and expect the breadth and depth of apps in Sentrion App Store to multiply quickly moving forward,” said Greg Olsen, director of business development, Sendmail. “Many third party developers of email applications are also excited by the unique opportunity to package their solutions as applications using the Sentrion infrastructure without having to sell and support their own message security appliances. By enabling enterprises to standardise on the Sentrion Message Processor platform, browse the Sentrion App Store and select messaging apps of their choice as add-on options to their email infrastructures, Sendmail is providing a win-win situation for both enterprises and specialised software developers alike.”
